A poster created by freshman Rebecca Bucci has been selected as one of the winners of the 2012 Art Educator’s of New Jersey Power of Art Poster contest and as the New Jersey High School Poster Design Winner.
Rebecca said she never thought that her colorful poster of the gold finch, New Jersey’s State bird, holding a paint brush with splotches of color around it would be selected and used for the Art Educator’s of New Jersey annual poster.
Rebecca said she used markers, colored pencil and watercolor pencils to create the poster of paint splatters and the bird holding the paintbrush. The contest asked students to create a poster demonstrating the power of art.
“The poster shows how powerful art is by the colors and represents New Jersey with the State bird,” she said.
Eileen Dormer, Rebecca’s art teacher, was very excited to learn of Rebecca’s achievement. “I am very proud of Rebecca’s well-deserved award,” she said. “She is a serious student and a pleasure to teach!”
Rebecca, a resident of North Caldwell, said she hopes to become a professional artist some day.
This achievement surprised her and gives her a new perspective.
“I thought that there were so many other talented artists out there,” and the poster would not have a chance to win the contest, Rebecca said, adding “I have learned that anything is possible.”
Rebecca will be honored by the Art Educator’s of New Jersey at a special ceremony in March in Trenton.
