West Essex Chinese and Culinary Students Learn to Make Dumplings for Chinese New Year
West Essex students celebrate Chinese New Year by making dumplings.
West Essex High School Chinese and Culinary students celebrated the Chinese New Year by making dumplings.
Chinese teacher Ms. Cynthia Ni, who is also advisor to the West Essex Chinese Club, demonstrated how to make a pork filling with ground pork and some chopped vegables and seasonings and then fill dumpling wrappers with the mixture. Students then learned to seal the dumplings, steam them and sample them.
Students in Mws. Ni's Chinese class also spoke to the culinary students about some of the special traditions for the Chinese New Year including buying a new outfit and getting a new haircut. They also learned that it is the year of the water snake.
