West Essex Field Hockey Player Amanda Cassera Scores 100th Goal

 
West Essex Varsity Field Hockey Player Amanda Cassera, a senior from Fairfield, scored her 100th goal this week in a game against Kent Place. Amanda's amazing goal-scoring record has helped West Essex win 8 games so far this season.

 Coach Jill Cosse wrote this about Amanda:

The West Essex  Field Hockey program started in 1965 under the direction of Ms. Alimi (who by the way sits on a prestigious panel  “ dubbed the  Elite 8” tonight celebrating the 40^th anniversary of title 9 at Caldwell College).  I am only the second coach of the program in school history, and my long time assistant Diane Simmons ( DeMiro) played under Ms. Alimi and won 3 state championships for her.  This program is rich in tradition and leadership among its alumni.

Ms. Alimi never believed in bringing freshman to Varsity unless they would start and play every minute.  Thus, only 4 freshman had ever come to Varsity before 1997 when I started.  Since I have been at West Essex, we have still had only a select group of freshman make Varsity.  Amanda who was a 1^st team National Field Hockey Coaches Association Regional All America is one of those freshmen.  She has started every game of her career for me and has just achieved a HUGE milestone goal in achieving her 100^th of her Varsity career.  Amanda becomes only the 4^th athlete in all those years to achieve this goal.  When Ms. Alimi coached,  she had Olympian Michelle Vizzuso score over 100,  and Diane and I have had now three players to achieve that goal; Kim Pantages, Natalie Cafone, and now Amanda.  It is an incredible goal that many can dream for and only few can accomplish. We celebrate and honor Amanda on her amazing 4 year career on Varsity and of earning this incredible landmark achievement!

It is even more impressive when you understand that we stop scoring on teams at 8 goal leads and pull starters for the second halves!
