West Essex Graduating Senior Creates Mural for Class of 1962
Senior Creates Mural for first West Essex class
As her Senior Service project, Shirley Gonzalez of Fairfield created a mural as a tribute to the West Essex Class of 1962, the first class to graduate from West Essex.
When the class returned for their 50th reunion last year, they were impressed by the class murals painted in recent decades, and requested a mural of their own. Shirley and her art teacher, Eileen Dormer, worked together with 1962 class member Jan Jessel and her committee, to plan a painting outside the school’s media center.
All of the 1962 students have their names memorialized on the mural, and the class donated a commemorative plaque which is now a part of the mural. North Caldwell resident and 1962 alumnus Bruce Vane awarded Shirley a scholarship for her service to the class of 1962 at the Senior Awards ceremony on June 4.
