West Essex Middle School Announces Students of the Month

Principal David Montgomery and West Essex Middle School Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri have announced the four Students of the Month for February, 2012.

The 7th Grade Students of the Month are:

Left: Deirdre Brady

Deirdre is a thoughtful and kind young lady who takes her studies very seriously. She takes special care to organize her thoughts and work so that she is prepared for class. Deirdre is careful to strategize before an assignment is due in order to have plenty of time to check her work and enlist the help of her teacher(s) if necessary. She is a great partner to her classmates, helpful to her peers and is a pleasure to have in class. She is a resident of Roseland.

Right: Derek Jacobson

Derek is a dedicated student who goes above and beyond in all his assignments. He is kind and polite to his peers and his teachers. Derek is often the first to help out another student if they are struggling and is seen as a leader due to his organization and his understanding of the material. He is motivated to succeed and a joy to have in class. He is a resident of North Caldwell.

The 8th Grade Students of the Month are:

Left: Jewels Gutowksi

Jewels is a very kind-hearted and genuine young lady. She is organized and takes her studies very seriously. She is dedicated to working hard and going above and beyond expectations. Jewels is a great friend to her classmates and contributes positively in any classroom. She is a resident of Roseland.

Right: Derek Gallagher

Derek is a thoughtful young man who is serious about his schoolwork. He is positive and generous to his classmates, and he is respected by all of his teachers. He is a resident of Fairfield.

Every month, West Essex Middle School will select four students to be recognized and honored as the Students of the Month. Two students from each grade will be selected and the selection for each month will come from one academic team at each grade level. Cross-teamed students will not be neglected and will also be included in the selection process.

To be selected as a Student of the Month, the middle school staff has decided to base candidates and selections on a review of the “whole” student not just the student with the best grades. Character traits such as honesty, perseverance, responsibility, integrity and leadership as well as a student’s academic qualities will be included in selecting students to be honored.

Honored students will have their pictures displayed in the middle school display case outside of the main office and on the middle school website. Honorees are also recognized during the morning announcements and receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishment, a “Student of the Month” locker magnet and a $5 Student Store Gift Card.
