West Essex Names ShopRite Stars for Fourth Marking Period

West Essex High School Principal Gary Suda has announced the fourth marking period Shop-Rite STARS winners for the 2012-13 school year.

They are: Anna George, a junior from Essex Fells who is a member of the National Honor Society, the Latin Honor Society and Math League and has a 4.5 GPA, for academics; Lucia Pasternak, a senior from Fairfield, and an active member of the National Art Honor Society, the photography club and art club and is working on an independent study in Art History, for the arts; Wyatt Kalb, a senior from North Caldwell, who is a captain of the boys volleyball team and member of the cross country and basketball teams and named all-conference for three years for volleyball, for athletics; Andrew Pappas, a junior from Roseland, who is vice president of the Key Club, an Eagle Scout who was selected for Boys State and a member of FBLA, for leadership and Joseph Toumanious, a senior from Fairfield, who is president of the environmental club, does community service with FBLA, and is past District Treasurer and past District Lt. Governor for the Key Club, and vice president of the West Essex Key Club for two years, for service to the community.

Each marking period, Suda asks high school staff to nominate students for the Shop-Rite Stars program recognizing their accomplishments in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership and service to the community. Each student winner will have their photograph displayed in the High School main office and in the West Caldwell Shop-Rite. Shop-Rite will also make a $1,000 award towards Project Graduation.

The program was created by Mr. Ned Gladstein, the owner of Shop-Rite in West Caldwell in 1999 to recognize the accomplishments of West Essex High School students. The program has continued with much success.
