West Essex Observes Move Up Day

Students Follow 2013-14 schedules.

West Essex Middle School Principal David Montgomery and Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri welcomed sixth graders from the North Caldwell, Roseland, Fairfield and Essex Fells sending districts on Thursday, June 13. The sixth graders received their schedules for the 2013-14 school year and met many of their teachers. All of the other students at West Essex received their schedules for the fall and started out the Move Up Day in homeroom. The eighth graders walked down to West Essex High School where Principal Gary Suda, Assistant Principal Julie Hoebee and Dean of Students Caesar DiLiberto helped students find their classrooms and answered questions.

"I am very excited to go to the high school," said eighth grader Samantha Schwarz as she found a desk in her geometry class. Mrs. Jenny Thom-Carroll introduced herself to students and talked to them about what would be expected of them in her class in the fall.Down the hall, some eighth graders also talked about what they will be learning next year in Ms. Bethany Careri's Honors Biology class.

"It was an honor to finally meet and welcome the 310 incoming ninth graders on Move Up Day," said High School Principal Gary Suda. "The total student body seemed to assimilate quite well and for a brief moment, we caught a nice glimpse of our future school identity."

"In my conversations with students and staff, Move Up Day was viewed as a success," said Middle School Principal David Montgomery. "Students and teachers were able to meet and begin the “getting to know you” process, parents were able to view  their child’s middle school academic schedules and all teachers and students were given an early opportunity to complete a run-thru of their schedules. I believe all of the primary objectives of Move Up Day were met."
