West Essex Observes "Take Your Child to Work Day"

Children of West Essex staff spent the day at the school district.

Children of staff at West Essex Regional Schools spent a day with their parents at work enjoying fun-filled educational activities on April 25. Children ages 3 and up enjoyed classes in art, science and physical education and also got to spend quality time with their parents learning about their jobs.

West Essex Middle School Art Teacher Roger Munch asked children to trace shapes and then color them in. The pictures were then displayed in the middle school hallway for everyone to enjoy. West Essex District Science Supervisor Elizabeth Ricafort conducted different science experiments with the children including creating a gooey slime.

West Essex High School Principal Gary Suda looked a little nervous as his four children played with their slime in his office….warning Gabriella, 11, Gianna, 10, Gracie, 8 and Gary, 6, all of West Caldwell, not to make a mess with the slime in his office. The children are all students at Washington School. Little Gary looked up from his slime and smiled. “My Daddy has a very important job because he has lots of meetings,” he said.

Gabriella said she liked meeting all of the high school students who have been so nice to her and her siblings.

Kira Symmons, 6 of Kinnelon, enjoyed tracing shapes in art class with Mr. Munch. She stopped to give her mother Tanya Simmons, the West Essex Director of Special Services, a big hug. “My mommy’s job is a lot of work,” she said. “She has to go back and forth from the high school to the middle school all day.”
