West Essex Middle School observes Violence & Vandalism Week.
The observed Violence and Vandalism Week and taught seventh and eighth grade students to be assertive, stand up for themselves and think rationally.
Early in the week, presented a special program titled “Standing Up for Yourself” with Middle School Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri.
Throughout the week, students watched a video titled “Standing Tall” during their physical education classes and then filled out questionnaires about bullying with guidance counselors and the school’s student assistance counselor. Students learned to go to an adult if they needed to report a bullying incident and to speak their mind. They also learned to be in control and stay calm. The video featured students being ridiculed for their shoes and their appearances and handling a variety of peer pressure situations both in and out of a school setting.
