West Essex Seniors Named Finalists in 'Shout Down Drugs 2012'

Two West Essex High School seniors recognized for song will perform at NJPAC.

seniors Alexa Farnese and Mackenzie Sweetwood have been selected as finalists for the New Jersey Partnership for a Drug-Free America’s “Shout Down Drugs 2012” concert at NJPAC in Newark on May 24.

Alexa, who enjoys songwriting as a hobby, took a song she previously wrote and and modified it for the contest. The girls then sang it together.

“I am really proud to be selected as one of the finalists,” Alexa said. “I think it’s really important to send a message to “say no to drugs,” and to use your voice “to shout down drugs” because it’s a bigger issue with teens.

“I am happy we did this together,” Mackenzie said. “We want to help educate the West Essex community about the dangers of drug use.”
