You matter. Volunteering saves lives.
Blog about volunteering for an animal rescue and how important volunteers are to rescue work.
One phrase I hear over and over again at our dog adoption events is, "Oh...if I could I'd take them ALL home!"
The truth is that we don't need you to take them ALL home. What our dog rescue needs, and what I'm sure most animal rescues need is your time. Saving animals from overcrowded kill shelters when they are about to be euthanized for lack of space takes time and work, and lots of it.

Most of us work full time jobs and have families at home, and we need all the volunteer help we can get. Yes, we always need funding, we need donations of pet food and tons of supplies, but to do the work that we do, we need your time.
If you love animals and want to help rescue homeless animals, think about signing up to volunteer with an animal rescue group in your area. The volunteer opportunities are endless.

Foster families are always needed. Fostering a dog keeps them out of a kennel, which saves the rescue needed funds and helps to socialize the dog for adoption. If you can't foster an animal, you are still needed. Offer to take a dog out for a walk in the park to give the dog a break from a noisy kennel.
If you've got office skills, think about offering to answer the phone, respond to emails, keep files organized, or help maintain the rescue's website.
Like to lift weights and work out? Offer a few hours as a dog handler, to walk and exercise dogs, or to help set up or break down equipment at an adoption event. Are you a budding photographer? Offer to take photos and video of dogs in need of new homes (which I know are better than the ones we take!). Do you like to cook? Offer to don an apron and flip a few pancakes at a fundraiser for the rescue.
On a hot summer day, you can gather a few friends and offer to help bathe former shelter dogs who may never have had a bath. Every volunteer minute you can give helps more than you know. You matter.
