UPDATE: Caldwell Car Crash Kills One, Injures Two In Essex County

The crash killed a 23-year-old East Orange resident and injured two college students from Newark.

Authorities are investigating a single-car crash in Caldwell that left a man dead and two college students injured on Monday night.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal crash took place around 11:30 p.m., when a 2015 Ford Mustang driven by a Newark college student was traveling southbound on Mountain Avenue near Hatfield Street.

Authorities said that the car veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole and a tree, killing the front seat passenger, Theo Walsh, 23, of East Orange.

The driver and the backseat passenger – both college students from Newark - sustained serious injuries and are hospitalized in critical condition.

Their names of the two students, 18 and 22, are not being released at this time.
