Youth baseball team raises funds for cancer research
On Saturday, March 7, members of the Caldwell Chiefs 11U travel baseball team participated in a St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser at the Cedar Grove Elks Lodge.
Participants in the event solicit donations from friends and family in exchange for shaving their heads in order to raise funds for kids with cancer. According to a release, the Caldwell Chiefs raised over $1,000 for this year’s event; proceeds will go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, one of the largest funders of pediatric cancer research in the nation.
The event raised close to $40,000 in total, according to organizers. In the eight years that the Cedar Grove Elks have been hosting this event, they have raised over $250,000, according to a release.
