Caldwell Community Pulls Together For Orchard Square Fire Victims

Caldwell residents, town leaders and The American Legion Post 185 earned $3,000 to benefit the families during a recent fundraiser.

CALDWELL, NJ — The Borough of Caldwell and The American Legion Post 185 earned $3,000 during a recent fundraiser to benefit the families left homeless after a recent fire in Orchard Square.

The event was held at the American Legion building on Saturday, Dec. 17, and included a visit from the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department.

During a recent Caldwell Town Council meeting, Mayor Ann Dassing thanked the American Legion for their efforts, as well as the other committee members that helped to organize the event. Supporting businesses included: Forte’s of Caldwell, Jacks Food town, Shoprite of West Caldwell, Calandra’s Italian Village and Russillo’s in West Caldwell.

“We are pleased to be able to host this event and to help out our fellow Caldwell residents who tragically lost everything in a recent fire on Orchard Square,” American Legion Post 185 Commander Dan Handy said before the fundraiser.

The Nov. 4 blaze consumed multiple homes and forced the closure of Bloomfield Avenue, News 12 reported.

Two homes were completely destroyed by the blaze, and a third was severely damaged, displacing seven people in three families, Caldwell Fire Department officials stated.
