Caldwell CSA Offers Deliveries of Farm Fresh Produce

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and means you purchase a share of a farm, usually at the beginning of its growing season. As a member, you will be rewarded with a portion of the harvest each week.

The Caldwell CSA partners with Starbrite Farms in Hardwick Township to have an assortment of vegetables, herbs and some fruit delivered to the drop-off site at 46 Central Ave., each week from mid-June through mid-November.

Members stop by every Tuesday, from 3 to 7 p.m., to pick up their share. The site is set up like a farmstand where members pick out and weigh their own produce. Members contribute to the CSA by volunteering for shifts to help set up or clean up.

Previous Starbrite harvests have produced; arugula, Asian greens, basil, beans, beets, broccoli, broccoli raab, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, celeriac, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, ground cherries, herbs, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, melons, mustard greens, onions, parsnips, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, salad mix, scallions, spinach, summer squash, spinach, tomatoes, tomatillos, turnips and winter squash.

The size of each delivery changes according to the growing season. Shares generally start out smaller and build in size during the summer. An average share is two to three grocery bags full and will easily feed the average-sized family. Members are welcome to split a share with another family as well.

A share of the Caldwell CSA costs $600 for the season; early birds who are paid by March 15 get a $25 discount.
