Caldwell police closed off Bloomfield Avenue during the tense standoff.

Caldwell, NJ – Authorities arrested a Caldwell man after he allegedly threatened to kill several police officers with a knife during a tense standoff on Monday afternoon.
According to the Caldwell Police Department, the incident began around 3:07 p.m. when Caldwell and Glen Ridge officers attempted to serve two arrest warrants at 79 Bloomfield Avenue.
The subject of the arrest warrants - Michael Rosiak, 58 – allegedly opened the shades to the front door and verbally threatened to kill the officers, police stated.

During the encounter, Rosiak allegedly tapped a large knife on the window and yelled that he “had something” for officers inside the home, police said.
The responding officers secured the immediate area with a perimeter and removed all civilians from that zone to ensure their safety, Caldwell Police Chief James Bongiorno said.

Officers attempted to make phone contact with Rosiak several times but he allegedly refused to exit the home, police stated.
At that time, officers called the NJ State Police TEAMS Unit to assist. State police responded and safely took Rosiak into custody at 6:23 p.m., police stated.
Authorities charged Rosiak with “multiple criminal offenses” and transported him to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
“The Caldwell Police Department would like to thank everyone for their patience as Bloomfield Avenue was closed between Mountain Avenue and Elm Road for the duration of this incident,” Bongiorno said.
