CALDWELL, NJ — Now that the Caldwell Merchants Association has disbanded, who will represent the town’s business community?
During a Caldwell Borough Council meeting earlier this month, Councilman Jonathan Lace reported that the Caldwell Merchants Association - a nonprofit whose mission was to revitalize the Caldwell downtown area – has disbanded.
Councilman Henderson Cole said that the association is dissolved, but that doesn’t mean the issues that the local business community faces have gone away as well.

According to the council minutes from the Feb. 6 meeting:
“On January 25, a group of merchants and residents informally got together at the diner and Councilman Lace and [Councilman Cole] were there to listen and to learn from them. There was consideration as to having another meeting in a month or so and as soon as [Cole] has that information he will make it available to the Council. There was a merchant that asked about a Chamber of Commerce of Caldwell and after doing a little research he found out that Caldwell is represented by the Northern Essex Chamber of Commerce which is currently located in Montclair. He spoke to the president of the chamber and he was helpful and had lots of ideas and has volunteered to help the merchants of Caldwell.”
