Caldwell Police To Host 2018 'National Night Out'

The free, public event in Caldwell will include refreshments, entertainment, giveaways and a dunk tank.

CALDWELL, NJ — The Caldwell Police Department will host its 2018 National Night Out event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the parking lot of Gelotti’s Ice Cream, 194 Bloomfield Avenue.

The event is free and open to the public, and will include refreshments, entertainment, giveaways and a dunk tank. Gelotti’s Ice Cream will provide refreshments and there will be tables with safety information from police, fire and EMS, according to the Caldwell Police Department.

Caldwell residents are also encouraged to participate by turning on their home or porch lights beginning at 9 p.m. to show support for National Night Out and promote neighborhood safety, authorities said.

The National Night Out program began in 1984 as a way to promote citizen involvement in crime prevention activities and police-community partnerships. The program on the first Tuesday of every August involves nearly 38 million people and more than 16,000 communities across the country, and U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.
