Caldwell Police Roll Out ‘Blue Envelope’ Program For Drivers With Autism
Caldwell Police Department: "We are taking another step towards fostering trust, inclusion and safety for all drivers."
CALDWELL, NJ — The Caldwell Police Department has adopted a “Blue Envelope” program designed to help drivers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or communication challenges during traffic stops.
What does a blue envelope mean? According to the CPD:
“The Blue Envelope allows drivers to store important documents — such as a driver’s license, registration, and insurance — in a clearly marked envelope. It also provides guidance for both the driver and the officer, helping to reduce stress and confusion during a traffic stop.”

As part of this program, every patrol officer will carry blue envelopes to distribute directly to members of the community.
Envelopes can also be picked up at the Caldwell Police Department, 24B Smull Avenue.

“By equipping our officers with Blue Envelopes to share with the community, we are taking another step towards fostering trust, inclusion and safety for all drivers,” police said.
