Caldwell Police: Several Unlocked Cars Entered Overnight

The CPD warning comes less than a month after Verona and West Caldwell police also reported serial vehicle break-ins.

CALDWELL, NJ — The Caldwell Police Department issued a warning for local vehicle owners on Wednesday after "several" unlocked cars were entered during the overnight hours. The number and location of the break-ins were not immediately known.

The CPD advisory comes just two weeks after police in Verona and West Caldwell warned of a series of break-ins in their towns.

The CPD issued the following notice on Wednesday afternoon:

“Please remember to always lock all of the doors to your motor vehicle; we have had several unlocked vehicles entered during the overnight hours and items removed from the inside. Also, please do not leave any valuables in plain view inside the vehicle and report all suspicious activity to the Caldwell Police Department. We thank you in advance!”

In July, the Verona Police Department identified a suspect in a series of 15 car break-ins, stating that he may have been the same man who hit 21 vehicles in West Caldwell less than week earlier. Authorities did not apprehend a suspect in either the Verona or West Caldwell break-ins.
