Caldwell Ponders Redevelopment Near Bloomfield Avenue: Report

Caldwell officials may be eyeing a redevelopment or rehabilitation plan for areas along Bloomfield Avenue, a report says.

CALDWELL, NJ — Caldwell officials may be eyeing a redevelopment or rehabilitation plan for areas along Bloomfield Avenue, a report says.

During the Nov. 20 Caldwell Council meeting, a resolution was introduced to direct the Planning Board to conduct a study into the possibility. Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing said that the study would be part of an attempt to try and meet the town’s affordable housing requirements, TAP Into West Essex stated. (Read the full report here)

According to TAP Into West Essex, areas being considered for redevelopment – which would be eligible for a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) – are the Academy triangle to approximately the ShopRite liquor store and from Central Avenue to Ravine Street.

Areas being considered for rehabilitation – which would not be eligible for a PILOT – include the Elm Road triangle and the eastern tip of Caldwell, in addition to Park Place, Smull Avenue, Hanford Place, Washburn Place, Gould Place and Cleveland, TAP Into West Essex reported.
