Caldwell Resident Honored At Mount St. Dominic Academy

Caldwell resident Madeline Cox Arleo serves as a U.S. district judge for New Jersey.

Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell honored a local resident, Madeline Cox Arleo, at its Hall of Fame Gala on Friday, Nov. 20.

According to a release, the purpose of the Mount St. Dominic Academy Hall of Fame is to recognize a member of the Mount community who has “brought outstanding honor to themselves, to their family, to society, to humanity and therefore, to the Mount by their accomplishments in the field which they have chosen or by the life they have led.”

This year’s honoree was a Caldwell resident, Madeline Cox Arleo.

According to a release, Arleo serves as a U.S. district judge for New Jersey and was appointed by President Obama. She is an alumna of Dominican education, attending St. Paul’s Elementary School and St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City. Arleo attended Rutgers University and received her master’s degree from Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers and graduated summa cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law. She was law clerk to Marie Gariboldi of the NJ Supreme Court.

On the local level, Arleo initiated the annual Pink Mass at Mount St. Dominic Academy, which honors those who have lost their battle to cancer, prays for those who are suffering, and celebrates the lives of survivors.

Arleo, her husband, Frank, and their children, MSDA senior Alexandria, and Seton Hall Prep sophomore Peter, are members of Notre Dame parish in North Caldwell.

Also honored at the gala were:

  • The Rev. Michael A. Hanly, retired pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Verona, “a supporter of the young women of MSDA and celebrant of many Mount liturgies”
  • Mairead Costello Clifford, ‘89, alumna of Mount St. Dominic Academy, “committed to empowering young women through Catholic education and co-founder of Trinity Hall, an all-girls high school in Monmouth County”
  • Gerry and Jackie O’Connor, parents of three Mount graduates, supporters of Catholic education (Jackie is a staff member of the MSDA Advancement Team and Gerry is the Executive Director of The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children)
