Caldwells Residents Among Winners Of Gingerbread 'Sustainable Home' Contest In Essex County

Each winning entry had sustainable building design elements, such as candy-glass skylights, rainwater reuse or solar panels.

Two Caldwell area residents were among the winners of the Essex County Environmental Center’s 2015 Sustainable Homes and Habitats Gingerbread Contest.

According to a county news release, each winning entry had at least three identifiable sustainable building design elements - such as candy glass skylights, rainwater reuse or solar panels – as well as a “natural habitat component.”

Children’s entries were allowed a cardboard foundation, but all surfaces, including the base, had to be covered with an edible product. All adult entries had to be “entirely edible,” including the base, structure and all decorations.
