Call for Entries: Earth and Arbor Days Contest for Students and Adults

Caldwell Environmental Commission sponsors environmentally themed competition.

Have an idea for how to make the world a more environmentally friendly place?

The Caldwell Environmental Commission is sponsoring an Earth Day and Arbor Day contest for local students and adults. There are three categories for contestants to enter.

Grades Kindergarten to 8: Open to students in Caldwell and in the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District. Contestants design a “Green Hero” and describe how the hero will help the Earth. Winners for three age groups will receive $25.

High School: Participants develop a commercial or public service announcement about a sustainable action. Winners receive $40.

College and Adult: Participants research a technology that would allow society to become more sustainable, or solve an environmental problem, and describe why he or she thinks the solution is important. Winners receive $40.

Entries may be in the form of posters, essays of no more than 300 words, videos, public service announcements, dioramas, photos with descriptions or 3D models with descriptions.

All entries must be submitted to the 2nd floor of the Caldwell Borough Hall, 1 Provost Square, by Friday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. Entries can also be submitted to the Caldwell Public Library, 268 Bloomfield Ave., by Saturday, April 25, at 12 p.m.

Winners will be announced at the Sustainable Action Day event on May 2 at 10 a.m. All entries will receive a certificate and a tree seedling, and be entered into a raffle for a gift certificate to the Wild Bird Center in West Caldwell. After voting, entries will be displayed at the Caldwell Borough Hall.
