Car Crashes into Support Pillar at West Caldwell ShopRite

West Caldwell Police and Fire Departments responded to a single vehicle car crash Wednesday afternoon at. A 2001 Toyota Echo crashed into a support pillar just before 3 p.m.

The driver was injured and transported to Mountainside Hospital for treatment by the West Essex First Aid Squad.  No pedestrians were struck by the vehicle and there were no other injuries.

The West Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted at the scene as well due to initial reports that the vehicle was smoking after the crash.  Neither fire nor smoke was present when police arrived at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not identified pending notification of family.  The Toyota Echo was damaged and towed from ShopRite.

The accident is being investigated by West Caldwell Police Officer Ed Bierals.
