Construction Projects Underway in N. Caldwell

Age-restricted complex moves forward, roadway improvements to begin.

The wheels are in motion for new construction projects and roadway improvements throughout North Caldwell.

The K. Hovnanian age-restricted housing development has begun at Stephanie Drive and Lindsley Road. According to Mayor Mel Levine, demolition of buildings and the clearing of the site has begun for The Pinnacle Development.

"Cleanup and required safety and aesthetic issues continue to be addressed at The Pinnacle Development," Levine said. "I was there [last week] and they have done extensive landscaping, there are some stonewall facades. The main structure that had been built, but had been abandoned, now has a roof, it has siding up and it has a lot of masonry work."

This particular building has been a concern to the governing body. The building had been deserted and the borough often needed to encourage the previous owners to maintain the landscaping of the property.

"While I was there, there were quite a number of workmen working on the project so it looks like its going to be sellable very soon," Levine said.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation also awarded a contract to Clifton-based AJM Contractors Co. Inc., for the Maywood Court paving project. The governing body had recommended the company to the NJDOT.

Work on the Stephanie Drive Pump Station upgrade project will begin in September. Contracts have been sent out and new pumps have been ordered.

Levine also announced that bids will be received in August for the 2010 Roadway Improvement Project.

"This project includes improvements to Courter Lane, Lakeside Avenue, portions of Green Place and the repair of several deteriorated catch basins throughout the borough," Levine said.

"You may see cones around some of the catch basins around where the roadway has sunk in—it's more than just patching, so we have to take some time to make sure we can repair it well."
