Dappers Dans Deliver Singing Valentine in Caldwell

Members of "barber shop quartet" chorus will perform 18 times through Monday, Feb. 14.

The Montclair Chapter of the Dappers Dans of Harmony surprised seniors at the Caldwell Public Library today with a singing Valentine. This was the first of 18 singing Valentines members of the barber shop chorus were scheduled to deliver over the weekend and on Valentine's Day Monday.

The Dapper Dans serenaded a group of seniors attending a program at the library. They performed three songs – all captured on this video.

This particular foursome, from left, baritone Steve DeVore of Chester, bass Billy May of West Caldwell, lead Bill Fox of Wayne and tenor Mike D’Andrea of Woodland Park, was off to the Paramus Cancer Center this afternoon.

The Dapper Dans' chorus manager, Ray Liptak, of Verona, said any man interested in joining the barber shop chorus can come to a rehearsal at the West Caldwell Civic Center, 5 Fairfield Ave., West Caldwell, on Tuesdays, at 7 p.m. Liptak said they have members from 17 to 87.

The schedule for singing Valentines is filled for this year, said Liptak, who recommended booking a month ahead of the holiday. For a $40 donation to the chapter, you can get two or three songs and a chocolate rose. For more information, call Liptak at 973-303-2087 or visit www.dapperdansofharmony.org.
