Docteroff Leads Caldwell 14U Past Orange
Pitcher throws seven shutout innings, strikes out eight and Gray scores twice.
The Caldwell 14U baseball team defeated Orange 3-0 Saturday morning in the first round of the Livingston Recreation League tournament at Memorial Park. Caldwell (13-6-1) will play Randolph in the next round on Monday.
The Chiefs, who beat Randolph 10-8 during the regular season in June, received a strong pitching performance by Jack Docteroff, who threw seven shutout innings, surrendering just two hits and struck out eight Orange batters. Docteroff also added an RBI, while Kevin Gray scored twice.
Caldwell, which plays Ramsey in the Wayne PAL tournament Sunday at 1 p.m., has been led this season by John Christopher, Jim Stille, Docteroff, who also plays the outfield, Joe Salter and Ray Iodice. In addition to Docteroff, the pitching staff includes Salter, Josh Ballway and Jack Kinney.
