Drivers Sustain Injuries in Bloomfield Avenue Collision
Crash took place midday in Caldwell near intersection of Bloomfield and Westover.

Two women were taken to the hospital Thursday after their cars collided on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell.
A woman driving a Mazda made a left turn from Westover Avenue and headed east on Bloomfield when, according to police, her car collided with a Toyota traveling in the opposite direction. The Mazda ended up on the lawn of 526 Bloomfield Ave., while the woman driving the Toyota pulled into the driveway of the same office building.
The driver of the Mazda sustained a head injury and the driver of the Toyota suffered an abrasion to her hand from the airbag deployment, according to Caldwell Police Chief James Bongiorno.

Both drivers, who Bongiorno said were from out of the area, were transported to the hospital for treatment and their cars were towed from the scene. There were no passengers in either car.
Bongiorno said the accident remains under investigation and no summonses have been issued.

The Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene along with the West Essex First Aid Squad, and the slow eastbound lane of Bloomfield Avenue was closed for emergency vehicles.
Caldwell Police Officer Andrew Apicella is handling the investigation.
