Duty Shuffle May Help Caldwell Put Extra Cop On The Road
Caldwell officials may have found a way to get the borough another police officer on the road without padding the budget.

CALDWELL, NJ — Caldwell officials may have found a way to get the borough another police officer on the road… without padding the budget.
During a meeting of the Caldwell Borough Council earlier this month, Councilman Pasquale Capozzoli reported that a private firm will be taking over some administrative duties involving off-duty police officers.
Capozzoli, who serves as the municipal chairman of public safety, said that the firm will take over making the phone calls collecting the money and doing the hiring, as opposed to having a Caldwell police lieutenant perform the tasks.

According to the minutes from the Feb. 6 meeting:
“Everything will be on a computer and they would alphabetically start with each officer. In essence this would put another officer on the road. The good news is this will cost the Borough no money and the Borough will still get the administrative fee and the fee that is charged for the Police Officers. Any officer working on side jobs are not being paid by Caldwell they are paid by the vendor that they are working for.”
