CALDWELL, NJ — As the borough continues discussing what to do about structural problems at the Borough Hall and library, a structural engineer released a report and photos recently on the condition of the buildings. READ MORE: Demolition Delayed For Library, Borough Hall

The library was damaged by Hurricane Ida in 2021. A New Jersey-based historic preservation group has argued that the structure, a Carnegie Library from 1917, is historically significant, but library officials have said it can't be saved.

A structural engineer submitted two reports on March 31 saying that to be saved, both buildings would need major repairs, as well as adjustments to avoid future flooding at the library, which could be expensive (see part of that statement below).
