The Caldwell Merchants Association is sponsoring the Black Maria Film Festival at Caldwell Flowerland. The Black Maria takes its name from Thomas Edison’s pioneering 1893 film studio. Each year since 1981, a panel of film scholars has selected about forty-five short films submitted from around the world to showcase at the festival throughout the United States. The program consists of about a dozen award winning documentary, animation, and narrative films shown on a giant permanent screen with commentary by a Festival spokesperson.
