WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The West Caldwell Police Department recently asked residents to remain vigilant amid reports of suspects impersonating water department workers in the township. However, the situation has now been identified as a "misunderstanding" between a contractor and a homeowner, authorities said.

Police initially issued an alert that people have been going door-to-door, identifying themselves as water department employees and tampering with water service.
