Five James Caldwell High School Seniors Sign Letters of Intent

Sports include lacrosse, track and field, softball and soccer

James Caldwell High School (JCHS) in West Caldwell announced that seniors Jessica Bracamonte, Leanna Chen, Gianna Genello, Jamie Hreniuk, and Stefano Russillo have signed letters of intent to play athletics at the college level.

Bracamonte, an honors student and defender for JCHS, will play Division I lacrosse for Quinnipiac University. A member of the team for all four years at JCHS, Bracamonte contributed to the team that won the New Jersey Girls Lacrosse League Freedom North Division in 2012 and in the Super Essex Conference that same year, the girls won the division title, bumping the team to the highest league. In 2013, the girls celebrated the team’s second straight NJGLL/Freedom-North Division championship.

Chen signed with Caldwell University for Track and Field. Chen earned sixth place in discus in the Super Essex Conference Championships in 2014; went 23-2 in the Shot Put at the Super Essex Conference Championships, placing tenth; and last May, went 86-11 in the Discus at the NJSIAA Sectionals - North II - Groups 2 and 3, placing seventh; 83-9 in the Discus at the Super Essex County Conference Championships - Small Schools, placing sixth; and went 94-5 in the Discus at Essex County Relays, placing third.

JCHS shortstop Genello will play for Rowan University in 2016, where she plans to study to become an athletic trainer. In spring 2014, the shortstop had 38 hits for 57 at bats, and 16 RBIs. Genello, an All-Essex slap hitter, also plays for the NJ Heist travel softball program, which won last summer’s Colorado Sparkler Tournament.

Hreniuk, who led the state with goals in 2014 with 13 goals and two assists, will play soccer for the University of Scranton Royals. In her four years with the Chiefs, the four-year starter scored 47 goals and had 28 assists, was SEC All-Conference first team in 2013 and 2014, and second team in 2012. In 2011, the midfield/forward also set the JCHS record for the most goals scored as a freshman and was on the Essex County All Coaches Team. In 2013, she was second team All-County. Hreniuk also plays for the TSF Academy Magpies.

Russillo is a four-year varsity starter and letter winner for JCHS, was captain of the soccer team his senior year, selected for first team all SEC, first team All County, and All State. Russillo, who scored seven goals for the Chiefs in 2014, played in the Senior All State soccer game at Rowan University. Russillo will play for Division I University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2015.
