"I think it is important to get out and hear what the residents think. Government doesn't exist in a vacuum; it is effective only with the consent of the governed. I look forward to hearing directly from the residents what they value and what concerns they have," Rodgers stated.
Rodgers concluded his weekend by campaigning at the annual street fair on Sunday.

"In addition to hearing what people think, I want to explain to my neighbors why I am running. I am running because I believe I can bring a calm and independent voice to the council. I have lived in Caldwell for 18 years and I am raising 5 children. As a result I have been exposed to and experienced many facets of our wonderful community. I felt it was time to get involved and help improve Caldwell," Rodgers stated. "Our town is a great place to live and raise a family and I want to keep it that way. The current council has become too partisan. There is a lot of posturing and shooting from the hip. I want to govern based upon the facts."
Rodgers heard from citizens on numerous issues, including property taxes, public safety, garbage pickup, deer, road paving, water pressure, street cleaning and leaf collection.
"We certainly have an engaged borough," remarked Rodgers. "I committed to the residents that I would not make promises I couldn't keep, and that I would study each issue. Clearly residents want good government at a fair price. Given the new 2 percent property tax cap this is going to be a challenge. It is a challenge I look forward to, because dealing with these issues will make Caldwell a better place."
Rodgers looks forward to continuing his door-to-door campaign throughout the fall. "The best way to get ready to be a councilman is to hear what the people think." concluded Rodgers.
