ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr., who has held that job for 19 years, was sworn into his sixth term as Essex County Executive Tuesday morning by State and Essex County Democratic Committee Chairman LeRoy Jones.

DiVincenzo took the oath of office in the Essex County Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Building in Newark — the city where he'd graduated from high school and worked as a teacher before running for office.

“This is my sixth term, but it still feels like my first term,” said DiVincenzo, a Democrat. “I love coming to work. Every morning I wake up and think about what we can do to continue moving Essex County forward."

Before taking office as county executive in 2003, DiVincenzo was a county freeholder throughout the 1990s.
