Grant Will Help Special Needs Children In West Caldwell, Fanwood
The Montclair Foundation's $4,000 grant will help Intensive Therapeutics to buy a LiteGait system.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Foundation recently awarded a $4,000 grant to New Jersey-based Intensive Therapeutics that will help the nonprofit provide physical therapy to local special needs children.
According to a news release, the grant will help Intensive Therapeutics – which has locations in West Caldwell and Fanwood – to purchase a LiteGait, a suspension system that can lift a child slightly as they walk over a treadmill and “unweight” their legs from their full body weight.
This suspension allows a child to learn to use their affected leg for walking with less stress on their joints when learning to walk with a more normal walking pattern, staff at the nonprofit said.

“It’s amazing to me to see the support we received from so many people to receive this grant,” Executive Director Scott Matthews said. “This is such a wonderful opportunity for us to further the services we provide to the children with special needs, so they can develop the skills necessary to walk, play and run in their own communities and neighborhoods.”
