James Caldwell High School To Get 'Blithe' At Theater Seance

Halloween season brings séance and comedy to a West Caldwell school for a three-day run starting Oct. 23.

James Caldwell High School in West Caldwell will kick off their theatrical season with a three-day run of “Blithe Spirit,” from Friday, Oct. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 25, at the school’s Center for Performing Arts.

According to a release, the comical play is about socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati, to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when, after the séance, he is haunted by the ghost of his annoying and temperamental first wife, Elvira. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles’s marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.

The curtain opens on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., with additional performances on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
