James Caldwell High School Inducts 19 into Latin Honor Society
Seven of the students were inducted for the first time.
“These students commit a lot of time and energy to their Latin studies,” said Dr. Trause. “The students inducted exemplify not only what it means to be a good student, but also what it means to be a good person.”
Society members come from the NJCL, which annually extends membership to more than 50,000 students of Latin worldwide. The NJCL is composed of local and state chapters and is the largest Classical organization in the world today. Its purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
To become a member of the Latin Honor Society, students must maintain an A average in the Latin course, be a member in good standing of the NJCL, and exemplify good citizenship. The candle lighting ceremony includes a question and answer section conducted completely in Latin.
