James Caldwell High School Inducts Nineteen Members into Latin Honor Society

Twelve new students and seven previous inductees are recognized by honor society and National Junior Classical League members.

Nineteen students from James Caldwell High School (JCHS) in West Caldwell were inducted into the National Junior Classical League (NJCL) Latin Honor Society at a ceremony held at the school on April 8.

Led by the World Languages Department Coordinator for Classical Languages Christopher Trause, who is also the school’s Latin teacher and club advisor, this is the third time JCHS has inducted students into the society after installing its first members in 2013.

Of the nineteen students recognized, twelve students were inducted for the first time.

To become a member of the Latin Honor Society, students must maintain an A average in the Latin course, be a member in good standing of the NJCL, and exemplify good citizenship. The candle lighting ceremony includes a question and answer section conducted completely in Latin.

“These students go above and beyond the requirements for induction into the Society,” stated Trause in a releasse. “The students attain an A average in Latin and exemplifying good citizenship, but they also have an understanding of their culture.”
