Leaking Gas Main Temporarily Closes Road In West Caldwell

A leaking, high-pressure gas main temporarily shut down a section of road in West Caldwell. PSE&G responded to the scene, authorities said.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A leaking, high-pressure gas main temporarily shut down a section of Clinton Road in West Caldwell on Friday. The road was eventually reopened and there were no injuries, authorities said.

According to the West Caldwell Fire Department, a gas leak took place just off the roadway in the vicinity of Chase Bank around 11:40 a.m.

In order to protect the public, Clinton Road was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic and PSE&G was notified, while the fire and police departments stood by, authorities said.

Shortly after the leak was found, the West Caldwell Police Department issued an alert that they were closing a section of Clinton Road.

“Avoid the area of Clinton Road and Passaic Avenue due to fire department activity,” police stated. “No pedestrian or vehicular traffic on Clinton Road from Passaic Avenue to Sanford Avenue.”

PSE&G workers responded quickly and were able to shut the gas. Once the flow was stopped, Clinton Road was reopened, fire officials said.
