Local Artist Marilyn Rose Brings Her "Friday Flowers" to Fairfield, NJ Gallery

Several years ago, artist Marilyn Rose, began posting her watercolors to her Facebook art page. While she paints many different subjects, from figures and portraits to plein air landscapes and town scenes, in inclement weather she often found herself painting the flowers that graced her Friday night dinner— and so her “Friday Flowers” series took seed.

Soon, what began as a whim became a Facebook tradition and her friends and Facebook followers who live around the country — and the world — began to expect the posts of the flower paintings in their Friday Facebook news feed. Now, hardly a week goes by without a new flower arrangement in watercolor.

“It’s always a thrill to see how many people comment, share, and repost them. I am so gratified when people I hardly know tell me they look for them each week,” she says.

Marian Jones, owner of Art@1275 Studio and Gallery in Fairfield, New Jersey, where Marilyn often teaches, is one of her fans, and approached her to put together an exhibit of the floral paintings and so the show “Friday Flowers – Sumptuous Watercolors by Marilyn Rose” will be on view at the gallery, located at 1275 Bloomfield Avenue (Pio Costa Junction), Building #1, in Fairfield New Jersey, May 1 through May 29, 2015. There will be an opening reception from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, May 3, and another opportunity to meet the artist (and see an informal painting demonstration) on Thursday evening, May 14 between 5 and 7 pm.

At the urging of some of her fans, and as a supplement to the show, Marilyn has published a beautifully designed gift book that features many of the paintings. “Now that this little book has taken seed, it is my hope that people will enjoy my Friday Flowers all week long,” the artist says.
