Local Stop & Shop's 'Scan It' Featured in Wall Street Journal Business Section

The Wall Street Journal ran a business story Wednesday called "Check Out the Future of Shopping," which features the Bloomfield Avenue supermarket's scan-and-go system.

The Motorola device lets shoppers scan and bag their groceries as they shop, tallying spending along the way. Occasionally, Scan It even presents shoppers with coupons.

The WSJ article features Patty Emery, a dental assistant in Caldwell, demonstrating the device. Emery told the Journal the scan-and-go system shaves 20 minutes off her shopping trips.

According to the article, retailers love Scan It because shoppers who use it tend to spend up to 10% more than the average customer.
