Makeup Artist Applies for Space on Bloomfield Ave.

W. Caldwell Planning Board also reviews request for Fairfield Place warehouse.

A makeup artist who works with models for magazine shoots and bridal parties applied at Monday night's West Caldwell Planning Board meeting for occupancy at a vacant space on Bloomfield Avenue.

After listening to the request from Jacqueline Intili, of Fairfield, for the space formerly used by Maria Rampinelli Realty at 607 Bloomfield Ave., the board said the application will go to a minor site planning sub-committee and will not require a public hearing for approval. The board expected to have a decision within two weeks.

Intili explained that she is the sole employee of her business, which is called Reflections and would be open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends when wedding parties are scheduled.

While the business is appointment-based, Mayor Joseph Tempesta asked if Reflections would attract walk-in customers. Intili did not expect that to happen often.

"There will be no signage, nothing that says I'm a makeup artist," she said. "I wouldn't turn them away, but I'm not going to be posting flyers anywhere. This is all appointment-based."

Intili said there usually will not be more than three guests in the studio at one time and pointed out that she is not a hairstylist and that service will not be provided at Reflections.

Asked if she will make any changes to the building, Intili replied, "None what-so-ever, except to make the inside prettier."

The board also listened to the application of Kanebridge Corp., a division of Oakland Management L.P., which requested occupancy of 38 Fairfield Place.

The company, which distributes fasteners like nuts and bolts, seeks to relocate the regional warehouse to West Caldwell from the Borough of Oakland in Bergen County. While the main warehouse is in Illinois, the New Jersey site is for distribution and houses the main office.

Kanebridge Controller Mike Sutphin explained that the company has 37 employees, but only 16 work on-site with four in the warehouse and the remainder in technical support, accounting, purchasing and customer service. The other employees work from home.

Oakland Management is close to a deal to purchase the property, but occupancy is a condition of sale. The company seeks to share the space with a fellow tenant, each occupying 25,000 square feet.

The board will review the application, and asked that Sutphin and attorney Mitch Abrams return for a public hearing on either Aug. 9 or 23, depending on Sutphin's availability.
