As a veteran serving in two wars, I feel compelled to share this. We have completely lost sight of the meaning of Memorial Day. Attending the parade from out of town, the last thing I expected was to be hit in the face with candy and squirted with a water gun. Instead of honoring those died in service to our country it seems we are more interested in allowing our young children beam the crowd with sweets and water. I don't see how athletic clubs even represent fallen service members. The entire parade was composed of less than ten percent of either active or retired service members. It's apparent that we have completely lost sight of the meaning of this holiday.
