West Caldwell Car Crash: Men Run, Schools ‘Shelter,' Report Says

Report: Wilson School and James Caldwell High School issued a temporary "shelter in place" order until the police investigation finished.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — A pair of men crashed an allegedly stolen van onto a property on Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell on Friday morning. The men then fled into the wooded area behind Crane's Mill, causing Wilson School and James Caldwell High School to issue a temporary “shelter in place” order, a report stated.

The crash took place around 10:18 a.m. on Passaic Avenue near Lombard Drive, West Essex Now reported. (Read the full article here)

Police from West Caldwell, Roseland and Caldwell, as well as an Essex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, eventually apprehended both occupants of the vehicle. No charges were immediately available, the report stated.

The schools’ shelter in place was issued as a precautionary measure and was lifted once police concluded their investigation, West Essex Now reported.
