Midget Baseball League 41st All-Star Game and Home Run Derby
Derby named in honor of U.S. Army Col. John M. McHugh. Brother, Frank, throws out first pitch.
The 41st Midget Baseball League All-Star Game was played Sunday, May 22 at in West Caldwell.
Before the game, players participated in the Col. John M. McHugh Home Run Derby. The derby was renamed this year after McHugh, who grew up in West Caldwell..
A total of 15 players participated in the derby. Brian Rolser, from the Yankees, won the competition and was presented with a trophy. Rolser hit two home runs in the first round and three in the final round.

McHugh's brother, Frank, threw out the first pitch for the All-Star game as members of his family looked on.
The East team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead by the top of the second inning and ran the score to 11-6 by the top of the 4th inning. But the West team did not give up and scored 5 runs in the last 3 innings to tie the game at 11 apiece.

The teams congratulated each other at the end and the large crowd enjoyed a great game and for one day did not get wet.
Vero Amici, which sponsored the event, will donate $500 to the West Caldwell Recreation Department.
