Morristown art gallery to Feature Oak Knoll Student's Photography
Essex Fells student's photography to be included in Morristown gallery.
SUMMIT, NJ, October 1, 2015 – Last summer, Charlotte Smith, a junior at Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, was encouraged by one of her teachers to pursue her passion for photography outside of the school environment.
As a result, starting Friday, October 2, 2015, Charlotte’s photography will be featured in the Selected Works exhibition at 70 South Gallery in Morristown. Charlotte was one of five students chosen from the American Society of Media Photographers’ Annual Juried Show to exhibit her work. She will have five photos on display.

Charlotte took the photos while attending the Yard School of Art at the Montclair Arts Museum over the summer at the behest of Jennifer Breitenstein, photography teacher at the all-girls middle/high school at Oak Knoll.
“I am so glad Mrs. Breitenstein recommended it and am very excited that my photos will be included,” said Charlotte, who is also a member of the school’s photo club.

Jenifer Landis, Upper School division head, said Charlotte’s inclusion in the exhibition is simply another example of the unique talents of an Oak Knoll student being fostered by their teacher.
“This is certainly indicative of students’ drive and ambition, but also of the support and encouragement of their dedicated teachers,” Mrs. Landis said. “We are very proud of Charlotte and so pleased that she has an opportunity for her work to be shared in such a wonderful venue.”
Charlotte, who was also taught by Mrs. Breitenstein as a freshman and sophomore, said her favorite aspect of photography is how subjective a photo can be to the viewer.
“When looking a photograph, two people can see very different things. It’s fascinating to me to look at the different angles and lighting and see how it differs the overall feel of the image,” she said.
Charlotte, of Essex Fells, said she hopes to continue honing her photography skills with the goal of pursuing a career in marketing.
