'Mr. West Essex' Crowned During Student Fund Raiser

West Essex High School senior does dance routine, impressions and dresses as bunny.

West Essex High School student Chris Costa was crowned “Mr. West Essex 2015” during a recent student fundraiser that garnered $7,000 for senior end-of-the-year events.

According to a release, Costa’s title-winning performances included a number from the film “Dirty Dancing,” an impression of one of his teachers and a turn in a risqué bunny costume for the lingerie portion of the competition.

In a release, Costa said the Mr. West Essex competition was “an experience I will remember for the rest of my life… It’s an honor to represent West Essex.”

Costa was selected from a pool of 12 contestants, including runner-ups Michael Panzarino and Ali Karacay, and seniors Dan Sanchez, Kevin Freda, Niko Nassisi, Devin Hinchcliffe, Mitch Epstein, Michael Farina, Emon Mirgahahari, Mike Gencarelli and Nick Salvo.

The Mr. West Essex event was planned by WEHS teacher Andrea Mondadori and her production team, including teachers Pat McGlynn, Chris Benacquista, Amanda Procaccino, Anthony Minnella. Students Richard Sessa, John Frangione and Tommy Pravata handled the lighting for the event. Joey Klein performed stage crew duties.

The judges were Ryan Soroka, owner of the Soroka Agency, and previous winners Greg Contaldi, Mr. West Essex 2014, and Nick Soriano, Mr. West Essex 2013.
