N. Caldwell Borough Administrator Resigns

Kunz left post this week; attorney's employment transferred to his entire firm.

North Caldwell's governing body unanimously accepted Tuesday night the resignation of its borough administrator.

Councilwoman Patricia Fost, chairman of the personnel and administration committee, announced during her report that Joseph Kunz had tendered his resignation this week.

There was no further discussion on Kunz's employment during the public meeting.

Kunz, who did not attend the meeting, could not be reached for comment.

Kunz's potential replacement was expected to be discussed in executive session following the public meeting.

Fost also announced that Attorney David Paris had also tendered his resignation, effective Sept. 1. However, Paris later clarified it to be a "procedural matter" and said he will remain as the borough's attorney.

According to the resolution, which was passed unanimously, "David Paris, Esq., has tendered his resignation as an employee of the Borough of North Caldwell to Mayor Levine, effective Sept. 1, 2010."

However, a second resolution was then also unanimously passed to authorize a professional services agreement for legal services with Paris' Nutley-based firm, Piro, Zinna, Cifelli, Paris & Genitempo.

According to Paris, the resolutions transfer his employment with the borough to his entire firm.

"I just wanted to clarify something with regard to my employment status," Paris said. "Lest there be any confusion with regard to the two resolutions this evening, I appreciate the fact that I will be continuing as town attorney. This really is a procedural matter in terms of administration."

The Caldwells Patch will update this story when more details become available.
